riIHE GEAND HOTEL, -*- DUNEDIN, FOR TOURISTS FAMILIES AND COMMERCIAL GENTLEMEN. NOW OPEN FOR THE RECEPTION OF GUESTS. In introducing to public notice this beautiful structure, which is admitted by all visitors who ha\e inspected it to be the premier hotel of the Australasian Colonies, the Proprietors beg to draw the attention of visitors and residents to some of the advantages it will offer. Bein" of fireproof construction, with simple and effective meai)3 of escape from every floor by the exterior balconies and circular! rcn staircase all the upper doors are made practically as safe as the ground one. Each floor is supplied with a separate fire service, made to our order by Messrs Shand and Mason, of London. No modern pul>lic building can rank as first-class unless great attention be paid to these particulars. This hotel is insured for 60 per cent, lower premium than any other hotel in the Colony. It has a central and open position, facing Custom House square : charming views are obtainable of the harbour, Peninsula, and ocean from the upper floors ; it is situated in the centre of the tramway svstems, and at a convenient distance from the railway station. It is commodious enough to afford all those comfovtsand conveniences that are to be found in the largest modern hotel establishments, such as efficient office administration, which will he arranged on the American plan ; a beautiful vestibule, passenger elevator, sample rooms, large private reading and smoking room, a guests' drawing room for ladies and gentleman, avoiding the necessity of private parlours; suites of rooms with private baths; private baths and toilet accommodation solely for ladies ; a ladies private entrance and reception room ; a hairdressing establishment, laundry, &c. The sanitary appliances, which are of the most perfect description, were imported specially for the building, and to avoid faulty fitting and to render the introduction of sewer gas impossible, the plumbing has not been done by contract, but with the greatest care by Messrs Anderson and Morrison, who were under instructions to execute all this work on the plans recommended by the Loudon Sanitary Commissioners. The basement drainage is perfect, and the whole section is concreted and cemented ; whilst there is also an abundance of light and ventilation in every part. Tims the whole building cannot be otherwise than healthy and agreeable. It is newly and elegantly furnished throughout. Special attention will be paid to the bedding; woven wire spring mattresses only will lie used. Notwithstanding all these advantages, the tariff will be no higher than that of other first-class hotels. This hotel is confidently presented to the public as the leading one of the Colony. .1. &.I.
