MAGISTRATE’S COURT

CHRISTCHURCH. A brief sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, was conducted by Messrs W. 11. Cooper, J.P., and F. H. Christian, J.P.. at the police station yesterday morning. Two first offenders were 'convicted and fined os, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness. John Lawson was convicted and fined 20s, in-default seven days’ imprisonment, on a charge of drunken neß*. , Robert Clegliorn, who had four previous convictions for drunkenness agains|_bim, was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment with bard labour. Frances Curry, alias Jones, aged sixty-three, was convicted as an incorrigible rogue within the meaning of the Police Offencos Act-,’ having been previously convicted as a rogue and a vagabond, and . was committed to tho Mount Magdala Home for a period of six months. LYTTELTON. Mr F. Knights, J.P., and Mr F. G. Norton, J.P. were on the Bench at Lyttelton yesterday. Four first offenders for drunkenness were fined 5s each. Patrick Pryor was charged with assaulting Thomas Balmer and was fined 20s, and ordered to pay £1 Is medical expenses, in default twenty-one days’ imprisonment. , Richard M’Evoy was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and was fined £2, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment for using obscene, language. Thomas St Clair and Henry Andressen, seaman off tho schooner Abemama, who appeared on tho third charge of drunkonness within a fortnight, were remanded for a week.
