PIGEON FLYING.

4. The Canterbury Pigeon Flying Club flew a race recently from Kaitoki, 97 birds competing, belonging to sixteen owners. . The birds, which were liberated by the stationmaster at 9.30 a.ni., in fine v/eather, and no wind, put up good times and : the • race proved a very close finish. Tho winner was ,F. Wilson’s No. 59, which flew the distance of 223 miles‘2B yards (air lino) in Chr 3rmn 23.50 C. Tho following is tho velocity recordod by each owner’s bird:—F. Wilson's No. 59, 1285yds por minute; F. Eingsford’s No. 540, 1284yds; W. Terry's 1.8. E., 1281yds; D. Dore’a No. 555, 1280yds; \V. Cumming’s Daxoln, 1278yds; Snndford and Rhodes's No. 305, 1277yds; G. Billcliff’s No. 42, 1277vds; J. I-lislop’s Better Luck, 1250yds; G. Robertson’s No. 165, 1247yds; G. Henderson's No. 214, 1220yds; E. Fuch’s No. 56, 1201yds; 'J. O’Connell’g No. 716, 1139yds; H. Pearce’s No. 856,1134yd5; J. Falconer’s Matchless, 1129yds; H. Duffield’a Split Ring, 1094yds; A. Buckley’s Duration, 631yds. F. Kingsford win 3 Mr Georg© Roberts’s special prize for best average in tho Kaitoki races, and W. Cum- . mings wins tho novices special prizo for the same serios. The junior section of tho Canterbury Flying Club flew off tb race from Hinds. Fiftyone birds were_ sent, divided among nine owners. Tho birds wore liberated at 12.90 p.m., in dull woatbor, with a strong sou'wester blowing. The winner was" Mrs A. Ellwood’s No. 134, which flew the distance of 64miles, (airline) in 2hr 38min 25soc. The following velocities /Were recorded: —A. Ellwood's No. 134, 716yds por minute; F. Fisher’s No. 441, 709vds: A. Corrigan's No 4, 700yds; A. Dalton's No. 521, 698yds; G. Black’s No. 21, 690yds; W.
