The Prime Minister, in replying, said amongst other things, that a Trade Commissioner would nob be appointed to America until it was known what her poliqy was going to be regarding the tariff. He hoped U»e States would not adopt a tariff against Australia and New Zealand. On the coal question, Mr Massey Baid that the Government was securing supplies from Australia, America and Canada, but the position would not be satisfactory until a reserve had bee built up. A few months ago another cut on the railways was narrowly averted. The position was easier now, but there was still room for .improvement.
