Dr J. Henry Orawshaw returned to Kaiapoi yesterday, after a visit to Australia.

Colonel R. O. Chesnoy and the Hon G. W. Russell arrived by the ferry boat from Wellington yesterday. Tho Rev R. M. Ryburn, of St Andrew’s Church, will meet the congregation on Tuesday night in connection with his appointment by the General Assembly to the newly-created position of Director of Youth Work for the Presbyterian Church. A deputation from the Assembly will also address the congregation. Mr Ityburn’s acceptance of the position, it is understood, will entail his giving up the charge of St Andrew’s, but not Jiis removal from Christchurch.

At a special meeting of the exeoutive of the Canterbury Hotel and Restaurant Employees’ Union Mr Albert Currie, retiriug president, who is about to leavo for Australia, was presented on behalf of members of the organisation with a Kaiapoi travelling rug and safety razor outfit in appreciation of services rendered to the union for many years past. Appreciative addresses were made by Mrs Couison (presidentelect), Mr T. Gilmoro (general secretary) and others. Mr Currie expressed his thanks for the gift and appreciative remarks, and wished the organisation every success in the future. Mr James Robin, who died at Wellington on Thursday, at the age of ninety years, ivas born on tho historic field of Bannockburn on September 2, 1830, and arrived in Dunedin m 1862 from Melbourne. Shortly afterwards he commenced business as a coachbuilder in tho Octagon, relinquishing this on his removal to Wellington in 1007. During his lengthy residence in Dunedin he was a prominent figure in all matters appertaining to the progress of the city. He represented Bell Ward as councillor from 1883 to 1886, was a member of the Otago Harbour Board from 1004 to 1907, and was indefatigable in his efforts m supporting tho project of bringing large steamers to Dunedin. Prior to the formation of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board in 1910, he was a member and chairman of the Hospital Trustees, 1887 to 1902. and 1905 to 1907, also of the Benevolent Institution Trustees. He was a prdmment member of the Otago District M.U.1.0.0.F., joining the Hand and Heart Lodge by clearance from Melbourne in 1862. He held the position of treasurer of that lodge, and also of the district, holding both offices till his removal to Wellington. He leaves a widow, daughter and one son, Major-General Sir A. W. Robin, who recently retired from his position as administrative head of the dominion forces, and who served with distinction in the South African war.
