Tbe finnls of tho Australasian amateur championships resulted as follow: BANTAM-WEIGHT. Bell (New South Wales) 7st 7lb, defeated Maddox (Now Zealand) Bst lib. on points. The first two rounds were even. Bell won the third by forcing tactics. In the fourth Maddox repeatedly jabbed his left to tho face, nnd won the round. The judges disagreed, and the referee awarded the decision to Bell. Many disagreed with the decision. FEATHER-WEIGHT. Stanley (Queensland) Sst 131 b, defeated Cann (Victoria) 9st, on points. LIGHT-WEIGHT. Morgan (Queensland) Sst 7lb, defeated Desmond (New Zealand) 9st slb. Tho judges disagreed and tho rofereo ordered another round. Desmond fought pluckily in the first two rounds, which were even. Desmond won tho next by good lefts, and Morgan used an effective right. Tho fourth round was fast and even. WELTER-WEIGHT. Gilabennon (Queeusland) 10st 3lb, defeated Hungerford (Queensland) 9st lljlb, on points. MIDDLE-WEIGHT. Findlay (Now South Wales) 10st 101 b, defeated Coll (Queensland) lOst 12ilb, on points. HEAVY-WEIGHT. M’Cleavy (Now Zealand) llet 9£lb, defeated Lang (New South Wales) 12st 911 b Tho decision was never in doubt, M’Cleary outboxed and outfought his opponent in avery round. (The last championships wore decided in 1913 in Dunedin, when New Zealand won five of the events, tho bantam-weight going to Now South Wales. It is recognised that visiting teams compote under a handicap, even in tho beat of conditions, and this is particularly applicable to tho Dominion's representatives, who, as a body, seldom show their true form when in Australia, This year’s team has dons very well indeed under the circumstances to got a win and two seconds with four oompetitors, and it is very evident from tho cabled report that the two events in which New Zealand finished seoond were exceedingly close. The success of M’Cleary will not come as a surprise, for ho is probably tho beat man who has represented the Dominion in the heavyweight class. He is a very fine boxer, what in the game is known as a boxing-fighter. Undoubtedly the surprise of tho meeting, from Now Zealand’s point of viow, is the defeat of Lajvless, wfio on his form at the New Zealand championships meeting looked quite a good thing for the welter-weight event. Possibly ho was affected by the heat, which, a private letter received from Sydney on Wednesday says, was so pronounced in Brisbane when the New Zealanders reached Sydney that they decided to stay as long as possible in tho latter city.) EVANS AND UREN. (Per Prekb Association.] DUNEDIN, November 25. A fifteen-round professional contest between Havilah Uren (9st 61b) and " Digger ” Evariß (9st 81b) was fought in His Majesty’s Theatre to-night before a very large attendance, for a purse of £2BO. The fight went the full distance, each man showing marked cleverness. Uren had tho advantage of height and reach and showed to advantage at in-fighting, but Evans evened matters with his tricky footwork. Tho points were evenly divided, but the referee’s decision in favour of Evans ww a popular one.
