THE LEAGUE GAME. ENGLISH TEAM WINS SECOND TEST MATCH. There was an attendance of about five thousand spectators at Lancaster Park ou Calurday to witness the second international League test match England v Now Zealand. The ground was m an Mtrnmelv irreasy condition, but the play wbb fast and the spectators were treated to a good display ox the League code as it should be played. By a stroke of good luck, howover, he was ahlo to relieve tho position by marking just in front of the posts. Tho ball then went back to mid-way, whero the Englishmen initiated a rush. The ball was passed far out to Stone, who wont right through the opposing backs, but went out at the corner. From tho scrum the ball went over tho line, and Stone fell on it. Gronow failed to convert. England * New Zealan d ° The Englishmen kept the ball moving when play was resumed, and by constant pressure forced the Blacks back. The greasy condition of the ground was responsible for an unexpected incident in the play at this stage, Poison falling on the ball and sliding some fifteen feet and forcing? down when ho slid over tho line. The New Zealanders got their' chance a few seconds later when Guinoy dribbled along the line and kicked infield. The ball went round among tho backs, .Guinej finally taking it over the lino. The effort failed, however, and Now Zealand in reply set up a strong attack which was beaten off by good dribbling on the part of the English forwards. An opening for the Whites ms made fern their twenty-five, but was spoilt by a long pass to Wagstaff being too ow. Heavy ram overnight mado tho ground sloppy, but a good exhibition of fast, open play resulted nevertheless, especially in tho second spell, when plaj alternated rapidly. The visitors won by 12 points to G. Tries for the winners were scored by Nelson (2) and Fitzgerald, Nelson also kicking a penalty goal. For tho losers tries were smined by Kivell and Thomas.
