DRAINAGE BOARD.

The Drainage Board met last night; present—Messrs H. J. Otley (in the chair), F. 3urgoyne, J, W. Boanland, C. Hill, C. Down, B. A. Staples, H. Holland and W. J. Walter. An apology waa received for the absence of Mr F. Storey. _ . The engineer reported that it would be impossible to carry out a proposal that tho Woolston Borough Council's night-cart should empty into the main drain on the sewage farm. 'iho Town Clerk of Christchurch wrote stating that many complaints were made as to the removal of nightsoil by tho contractor, and asked if the board oould assist in disposing of the nightsoil if tho council arranged to dump it in a suitable place, A motion Was passed that tho board oould not givo tho council any assistance in the matter,

The Works Committee roportcd that it could not lecommend that an application by the Waimairi County Council for tho board to pipe a drain on the Burnside Road should bo granted, as the expense would not be justified. Tho report was adopted. Mr T. Fordham wrote complaining of the drain running from tho bottom of Charlesworlh Street to tho estuary. Both floodgates were useless, and at ovcry high tide his land was flooded. A motion wa3 passed regretting that tho board could do nothing in the matter. On tho motion of Mr Boanland, tho engineor was instructed to report on a drain through privato property in Caledonian Road, St Albans, Tho socretary N nnd treasurer reported that on Mav IB there was a debit balance of £327 lis Bd. Accounts amounting to £1135 2s 7d wero passed for payment.
