PRICE OF MILK.

MEETING OF WHOLESALERS. A meeting of dairymen was held in the Chamber' of Commerce last evening, Mr H. Bliss, junior, presiding, for the purpose of considering the proposal made.by the Board of Trade regarding the price of milk. The chairman reported that, in company with the retailers, a conference had been held with .the Board*of Trade. The hoard wished the wholesalers to accept Is 3d per gallon, but to this he had refused to agree without conferring with the other wholesalers. He Bubmitted a statement showing the estimated production of milk and loss to wholesale dairymen thereon during the five months of winter and early Spring with a wholesale selling price of Is 6d per gallon. Following is the .statement, which is made out in terms of the yield and cost per day m one first-class dairy cow of the raluo of £2O, and which does not take iccount of such accidentals as firing water-supply, bulls, gum-boots, repairs to stockyard, ©to:—

i After a discussion, Mr W. H. Benfeon moved the following resolution:— "That this meeting regret the attitude adopted by the Board of Trade In fixing the price of milk below cost >rice in the winter months, and are ieterniined to stand firm that the price hall he not' below la 6d per gallon rom May 1 to October 1; and that it b desired that the board should ippoint exports to inquire thoroughly nito the cosij of production on the farm."
