BOROUGH COUNCILS.
WOOLSTON, The Woolston Borough Counoil met Isflt evening; present—The Mayor (Mr C. Hill) and Councillors J. C. Ifobson, L. Hart, B MTSae, H. M’Lachlan, G. T. Owen, W. R. Blazcy and E E. Radcliffo. The North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote stating tlrat the council’s !ev>’ for 1920-21 would be JC67G 5a Cd (as against £523 12s Gd tha previous year) and forwardod a lengthy explanation why increased levies were necessary, mainly owing to tho increased cost of maintenance and the larger public uso of tho institution—Received. The Town Clerk, Lawrence, wrote asking support to a resolution urging the Govern*, ment to make tho upkeep of public hospitals a charge on the Consolidated Fund--Approved. The Mayor (Mr C. Hill) and Councillor Hobson were appointed tho council’s representatives to the conference called by the Progress League to consider tho port facilities. The delegates were given a free hand as to hew they should vote. Tho Waimairi County Council invited tha council to send representatives to a conference, on May 19, at the Drainage Board’s office to consider a. universal wage for council employees. Councillor Hart protested at tho meeting being hold in the afternoon, v.-bich prevented workers attending. Councillor M’Rao and the town clerk wore appointed. The Woolston Fire Brigade asked that tha council should evolve a scheme to enablo more assistance to bo given to the brigade— Referred to tho Works Committee. A request from Marshall Street residents for improvement? to the footpath, etc., was referred to the Works Committee,
