H.M.S. RENOWN.

DATE OF DEPARTURE. It practically has been decided that H.M.S. Ren-own will remain at Lyttelton until Saturday morning, instead of leaving for Melbourne on Friday, as was originally intended. Nearly six hundred members of the crew of H.M.S. Renown were entertained in the King Edward Barracks last evening by members of the Y.W.0.A., under Miss Law (general secretary), arid by members of the ladies’ auxiliary of tho Y.M.C.A., under Mrs Chilton (president). After tea an enjoyable musical programme was provided, the items being:—Violin solo by Miss Gladys Vincent, solo by Miss Cicely Audibert, and piano solo by Miss Lilian Harper (tho accompanist). A special concert by the Male Voice Choir was held later" in the evening, the principal items were solos by Messrs F. U. Penfold, P. Angus and W. H. RECORD CROWD YESTERDAY. On Saturday and Sunday largo crowds visited Lyttelton to pay a visit to H.M.S. Renown. Motor-cars and motor-cycles a rrived in their scores viu the Governor’s Bay and Sumner roads, whilst many walked from Sumner. According to tho record taken at tho gangway of the Renown, 19,153 persons boarded the vessel on Saturday afternoon, and yesterday’s total was estimated at between 20.000 and 25,000, which is believed to constitute a record for Lyttelton. The rush at the barricade and gangway on both days was inconsidorato in view of tho large number of small children present. Yesterday several women fainted as the result of the crushing. The trouble was largely due to the want 'of a quehjo at tho gangway, visitors being allowed to scramble on board. A twonty-minuto railway servico was run yesterday morning, which was accelerated to a tenminute service from noon. Each train consisted of about twelve carriages. The rush at the Christchurch and Lyttelton railway stations probably was unprecedented. of the Navv League will visit H.M.S. Renown this afternoon. The Soccer teams from H.M.S.
