The Tuahiwi Natives sent the following telegram to tho Prince of Wales on tho arrival of his Royal Highness at Picton;— “May it please your Royal Highness to accept greetings from tho remnants of the ancient powerful tribes of Te Waipounamu. We extend to you a cordial welcome to tho soil of our ancient forefathers. It is with the greatest pleasure we greet you, our future King. May your visit to this land of ours be one long memory of happiness, and we trust on your return to the Motherland you will convey our greetings and our unflinching loyalty to our " Sovereign. Ma te Atua tonu Koo etiaki. “ From Te Hau, of Tuahiwi.” The following reply has been received : “Te Hau of Tuahiwi, Woodend. “I am directed by the Prince of Wales to convey to you his sincere thanks for the loyal greetings telegraphed by you on behalf of the) ancient tribes of Waipounamu. His Royal Highness much appreciates your greetings and will convey your assurance of devotion to his Majesty the King. “Lieutenant-Colonel Grigg, “ Secretary to 11.R.H. the Prince of Wales.”
