RETURNS FOR THE YEAR. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 13. Railway returns for the financial year ended March 31 last are published in the “Gazette.” They show that tho revenue during tho year amounted to £5,752,487, and Ol6* .expenditure to £4,105,067. Tho proportion of expenditure to revenue was 71.36 per cent, against 66.32 per cent for last yoar Details of tho railway working account are as follow, shillings and pence omitted : i REVENUE. The number of passengers carried during tho year was 12,760,814, an increase of 1,3.86,293 on the total fior tho preceding twelve months. Tho number of season tickets increased from 351,124 to 400,621. Stock carried by the railways during the year numbered 7,674,532, an increase of 636,228. Goods traffic increased by 358,775 tons, the total for the year being 5,597,232 tons. Minerals included in this total showod a decrease of 143,247, due to reduced production of coal from the mines.
