WANGANUI, March 9. •While cleaning a. furnace at tho gasworks a. stoker named John Smith, 52 years of age, residing at Gonville, received severe scalds and died in the hospital last evening. The accdent was not seen but Smith was found severely injured and was conveyed to tho hospital-
