MAGISTRATE’S COURT

CHRISTCHURCH. Air S. E. M’Carthy, SAL, presided at the Magistrate’B Court yesterday. Two firist offenders in respect of drunkenness were each fined ss, in default twenty ; four hours’ imprisonment. Another first offender was fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. William Johnston, a second offender, .was fined 20s, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. Joseph Patrick Mullaney pleaded guilty to a charge that on Saturday at Okain’s Bay he stole £9 10s in money, the property of Charles Ford. He was convicted and ordered to, come up for sentence when .called .upon. He was also placed on probation for twelve months. John , Walsh was sentenced to imprisonment for a month, with hard labour, for the theft of a sack of empty bottles from Warner’s Hotel. Judgment for the plaintiff by default with costs was given in each of the following cases Gibson Bros. v. W. Gibsonj £6 13s 6d; Cash Clothing Company v. Richard Kildare, £1 19s 7d; Gough And Son v. The case of Albert Edward Nichols, who was charged that, on January 10, at Harwell, he assaulted William Hann by pointing a loaded shotgun at him, with intent to do him grievous bodily harm, was called again. Sub-Inspector Dew Baid that accused was still under observation. A remand was granted for eight days, with an understanding that a similar remand will be applied for from time to time.
