Mr tieorge P. Chapman, of~Dnnedln, has been appointed secretary of the Nelson Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, out ot fifteen applicants. Mr. W. G. M'Donald, Wheat Controller, will arrive in Christchurch from Wellington on Friday morning, and will attend tho wheat conference on Saturday. Lieutenant H. Willis, who enlisted with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and, before enlisting, was a member of the City Surveyors Btaff, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Mr Sidney Williamson, who is well known in musical circles in Christchurch, intends to.spend a year abroad, principally for health reasons. He will leave Christchurch about the third weelC in February. A Press Association message from Nelson states that Mr W. O. Davies, head master-elect of the Blenheim School, and at present hoad master ot the Greytown District High School, has been appointed curator of the Cawthron Institute of Scientific Research.

Mr J ; O'Donoyan, commissioner of police, is, in Christchurch. He visited the central and suburban police stations yesterday. H© has already visited the Wost Coast. From Ohristcbnrch he will go south before returning to Wellington.

A number of tho Wost Lyttelton school children waited on Mr H. H Allison (headmaster) last week, at his privato residenco, and made him a sniitablo presentation. Tho gift was handed to Mr Allison by Myrtle Koskola. dux medallist of tho school. Mr Allison has resigned from the West Lyttelton School in order to take charge of tho Boys' High School at Greymouth.
