A huge meeting at tlie Town Hall passed a resolution calling on the authorities to release Freeman, and asking all connected with the sailing of tho Sonoma to refuse duty until this was effected. A crowd of several thousands marched from the Trades Hall to the wharf, demanding Freeman’s release. They raided several shooting galleries en route, seizing rifles, but after tho announcement that Freeman was being taken ashore the crowd dispersed. Four people were injured during a fight with the police. The Minister of Defence has promised Mr Tudor and other Labour leaders Cabinet consideration of the request for a free trial for Freeman.

A big crowd watched the removal of Freeman from the Sonoma to tlie Garrim Hospital at Victoria Barracks pending tho decision of the Minister of Defence- Freeman broke his self-imposed fast last evening when informed he was to be removed, but.is very weak after several foodless days. He had to be -a ’Tied out on a stretcher. The wharf labourers resumed loading the Sonoma when Freeman’s removal was assured.
