Replying to Baron Makino, in an interview, Mr Hitchcock, chairman of tho Foreign Relations Committee, said that Japanese international matters wero accorded equality in treatment. It was only in domestic matters that any discrimination of a racial character 'occurred. Tho United States must adhere to these discriminations in order to preserve race purity. Japan was fully empowered to do the same. 'JAPAN ASKS FOR RACIAL EQUALITY. (Received April 4, 8 p.m.) PARIS, April 3. Baron Makino, interviewed, said that Japan was ready to join the League of Nations as an equal. No Asiatic race could be happy in a league in which sharp racial discrimination was maintained. Japan did not Wish to impose Japanese labour immigration upon the associated countries.
