Ballin, a well-known Christchurch resident. Pneumonia followed on an attack of influenza, and ho died on Saturday morning. The funeral of Dr A. V. Short, who died at the Christchurch Public Hospital on Friday, took place at the Linwood cemetery yesterday afternoon. The funeral was of a, semi-military character, the casket being borne on a gun carriage. The Rev C. E. Perry conducted the service at the graveside. The chief mourner was deceased s father, Air AV. S. Snort* Undor-Seore-tary for Public AAorks, Wellington. The funeral took place on Saturday, at the Sydenham Cemetery, of Corporal Frank Pengelly, who died at the Christchurch Hospital on Thursday from influenza. The late soldier left with the Twentyfirst Reinforcements, and after seeing service in France returned to the Dominion last April. He had been a patient. at the Returned Soldiers’ Ward at the Christchurch Hospital for four months, and had been discharged just prior to his death. The funeral was partly a military one and the coffin was conveyed on a gun-carriage. Canon Bean read the burial service. The pallbearers were Privates Norman Fraser, A. Broom, E. Al’Donnld and ,J. Resseis, all returned soldier friends of deceased. Wreaths were sent from Private Fraser. Mr and Airs T. AY. Kerr. Aliss and Master Kerr, Air and Airs Broom, Air A. Broom and Miss Broom, Aliss Olsen and Mrs Gave.
