THE LATE MR C. W. GREEN.

THE FUNERAL. , Til* funeral of the late Mr C. W. Green,;.secretary ol' the Ghristehurch branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association, who died on Monday, took placed at the Sydenham Cemetery yesterday. The cortege, left the late residence of Mr Green, in Dunn Street, Spreydon, shortly after two o'clock. The casket was borne on a gun-carriage and was' draped -with the. Union Jack. A largo number of returned .soldiers were present, besides prominent local citizens and friends of the late Mr Green. Amongst those present were Mr IT. Ho.land (Mayor of Christchurch), Mr W. H. Winsor (.Mayor of Spreycfon), Mr M. Woodiiek! (Town Clerk of Spreydon), Messrs George Harper, W. 10. I>. Bishop, A. \V, Symons and A. C. Maxwell, representing the Citizens' Defence Corps: Messrs H. B. Sorensen. ]?. T. Toswill and F. W. Hobbs, representing the Canterbury Patriotic Fund; and Mr J. M. Turnbull (Second Division League). The firing party, consisting of. ten returned men, was under the charge of SerjeantMajor Stevenson, and Sergeant-Major W. E.. La ad ley was in charge of the returned, men. The Coast Defence Band, under Bandmaster Cakes, was also in attendance. Chaplain Walker officiated at the graveside. After the burial service the firing party fired a salute of three volleys over the grave and the " Last Post" was, sounded by SergeantBugler R. F. J. Powell, of the Boys' High School Cadets. The following sent' wreaths:—Secretary- and staff of the Canterbury Patriotic Fund, Citizens Defence Corps, Women's National Reserve, . Harbour Lights Girls' Club, Returned Soldiers' Association, Mrs Davie, Miss G. Le Lievre, Mr H. M. Cotton (president of the local R/S.-Al), and Mr J. M. Turnbull.
