, NEWS AND NOTES. Mr and Mrs Bun ten (Balclutha) are staying at Warner's. Mr and Mrs J. Hart (Wellington) are visiting Christchurch. Mrs Arthur Shorris and Miss Sherris are visiting friends in Wellington. M"'W. F. Ward and Miss Ward (Wellington) are visiting Christchurch. Mrs G. E. Rhodes, Clyde Road, Fendalton, is suffering from influenza, and is unable to leave her house. Miss M. Smith (Wellington) has been spending a holiday with friends in Christchurch. Mrs W.S.. Bean, (Addington) has returned ,to Christchurch from a visit to Mrs Seddon, Wellington. Miss Ronnell, the matron of the Hanmer Springs Sanatorium, is on a visit to Auckland and Rotorua. Mr and Mrs E. H. Reid (Hakataramea)' left for their homo yesterday after o stay in Christchurch. . Mrs Arthur A. Watkinson, whoso husband died at Wanganui recently, is a sister of Mrs W. P. Massey, wife of the Prime Minister. In compliance with the Health Officer s orders, it has been decided to postpone the fancy dress ball which was to have taken place on November lb. The committee met on Tuesday, and arranged that as soon as the risk of infection is over the ball will be held. In the evening relatives and friends of Mr and Mrs Richardson, to the number of about one hundred, met in the Waltham Hail and a very pleasant time was. spent in dancing, games and social intercourse. Many of those present had. come from the North Island and as far south as Dunedm to do honour to the pair. A dainty supper, which Mrs Richardson had herself prepared, with the exception of the cakes, was served.' After the usual toasts had been honoured Mr C. V. Harvey proposed the toast of the. bride and bridegroom, which was drunk with musical, honours. Several old acquaintances referred in eulogistic' terms to'Mr and Mrs Richardson and spoke of the respect and esteem' in which they were held. Mr Richardson suitably responded. A large number of useful and valuable presents were received. After supper dancing and game's were resumed and were kept up until'the small hours of the morning, when a, most enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of "'Anld Lang Syne.''
