His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral left Christchurch for Dunedin by the express yesterday. Major Bernan, N.Z.M.C., left Christchurch yesterday for Hanmer. Mr 0. W. Green, secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, has resigned. The Otago Association football team left for Dunedin by the express yesterday. A large crowd of Soccer enthusiasts gathered at the station and hearty cheers were exchanged os the train left.

Last evening Privato George Willis was entertained at a farewell gathering at the Cadena Rooms by the members of the New Zealand Utility Poultry Club and the Canterbury Egg-Farmers’ Association, when he was the recipient of a fountain pen, a chamois leather waistcoat, salad bowl, silver water-jug and toast-fork. During the evening a numbeT of musical items were contributed by Messrs Orchard, Cocks, Soanes and Gott.

At the annual meeting of the Avon Rowing Club last night a letter was received from Mr H. H. Bei-ry, who is at present ou active service in France, tendering his resignation from the position of president of the club. Members, however, were of opinion that, in view of the valuable services Mr Berry had rendered to the club, he should be re-elected to the position of president. This was unanimously agreed to, and it was decided to write to Mr Berry to that effect.
