MEAT REQUISITION.

PROPOSED EXTENSION OP TERM,

FAVOURED BY MINISTER AND COMPANIES.

WELLINGTON. August 6.

Tho Hon 1). H. Guthrie announced that through a deputation Inst Saturday a proposal had been made to him that tho requisition of meat should bo continued until the expiry of the wool commandeer. Since then replies had been received from freezing companies showing that tho companies were almost unanimously in agreement with the proposal, only two declaring against it. Mr Guthrie expressed the opinion that if the Imperial Government could he induced to extend tho requisition it would bo in the best interest of the Dominion. If a period of financial stringency followed the end of tho wav such an arrangement would protect New Zealand producers from being exploited by companies controlled abroad.
