Mr J. Craigio, M.P., arrived from tho north on Saturday.

His Honor Mr Justice Stringer was a passenger by tho ferry steamer for Wellington on Saturday. Mr S; E. M'Carthy, S.M., tho newlyappointed senior Magistrate of Christchurch, arrived in the city on Saturday morning.

Commissioner Hodder, Colonel M'lnnesjind Adjutant and Mrs Baden, of the Salvation Army, arrived in Christchurch from Wellington yesterday.

Passengers by the ferry steamer on' Saturday included Lieutenant-Colonel Q'Noil and Messrs A. Kaye, W. Pvcece, .Cyrus Williams, W. J. Bardsley and P. L. Hallenstein. Surgeon-General R. S. F. Henderson, Director-General of Medical Services, and Hon Colonel T. H. Valinfcine, Director of Military Hospitals, arrived from tho north by the ferry steamer on Saturday. Mr? V. Anderson, Ashburton, has received advice that Private V. Ander- ' t-on, late of Greenstreet, Ashburton County, is a prisoner of war in Germany. In a letter written on May 10 Private Anderson states that he is well.

Mrs F. Barnes, of Kaiapoi, has received the following account of 'the deeds by which Rcgimeutal-Scrgeant-Major (now second-lieutenant) T. S. West, Canterbury Regiment, won the Belgian Croix do Guerre:—"Gallant devotion to duty. Took command of a portion of his company when all the officers were casualties. Led them into a gai> in the line, drove out the enemy and consolidated tho position. He later -displayed great bravery in getting rations and water up to his company while in a particularly dangerous position."
