ADDINGTON YARDS.

STORE STOCK IN KEEN DEMAND

There wao a largo attendance at the metropolitan market at Addington yesterday, and ifio ontries of stock were also ÜberaL Boot was scarcely as iirni as at last weok's o* tho .railgo oi still high for exporters. Store cattle, of which there was an excellent yarding, sold well, particularly forward lines which good grass could l-oturn to the fat pens in reaaonablo time. Dairy cows again made high prices, and vealera sold at previous week’s rates. Fat sheep made a hotter showing than for some weeks past but while tho market was a shade easier, graziers’ competition for unfinished lines helped to, maintain a fairly level tone throughout. Ihe store sheep entry was a largo one, and good quality wws tho rule, though there was, as usual, a “tail to tho yarding. There was little alteration in values from last week’s until tho attendanco thinned down in the afternoon, and then lamb prices receded, l'at lambs, were better in quality, but the pvarkot was easier. The to|p price was 31s 3d for lambs, a tong) way in advance of the vest of tho offering. Exporters were buying freely. There was again -a shortage in tho pig section, and prices wero in favour of the vendors. FAT CATTLE. About three hundred head of fat cattle came forward, cow beef being in liberal supply. At the start the market was slack, and passings were heavy, but at tho olose there was a noticeable improvement upon tho general run of the sale. The level of prices on; flic whole was on a par with that, of a fortnight <ig®, last week’s prices not being maintained. Steer beef was distinctly easier, and so was tho fight heifer class, but despite the forgo yarding, cow,s and lreifera sold well. Exporters were unable to obtain more than a low head, owing to the price being still well above the expert Jevel. Tho following was the range of prices: Extra prime stcqrs to £23. Prime steers, £l7 to £l9. Ordinary steers, £ls to £l6 10s. Extra prime heifers to £l6 os. Prime heifers, £ll 10s to £ls 10s Ordinary heifers, £lO to £ll ss. Extra prime-cows to £l3. VEALERS. ’ There was an average entry of vealers, of good quality, large' calves being plentiful. The demand was firm, and prices obtained were equal to last week’s, ranging as follows: —Runners £6 7s Gd to £7 2s Gd, good vealers £3 3s to £5 7s Gd, fair £2 to £2 los, small and inferior 9s to 38s. STORE CATTLE. The entry oi store cattle was a largo one, and contained an unusually largo proportion of good young steers. Two pens of three-year-oid Hereford cross steers, recently from the sontli, made £ls Gs and £ls 16s a head, under spirited competition. Tho tone of tho market throughout v.-as firm, and forward lines sold .well. In the case of a couple of big lines of three to four-year-old steers the bids, wero short of owners’ ideas of value, and the lots were passed. Tlie range of values, was as follows: '\Yeauers, £3 7s to £4 14s. Eightecn-months-old heifers, £7 17s Gd. Three-yea.r-old heifers, £lO 10s to £ll. Two-year-old steers, £lO 8s Gd to £l3 15s. Three-ycar-old steers, £ll 17s Gd to.£Ls 16s. Dry cows, £6 to £ll 10s. DAIRY COWS. Dairy oowa wero moro numerous than at recent Bales, and some cows of good type were offered. Competition was fairly keen tor early calvers with soma guarantee, but a big line of good heifers, of uncertain calving date was passed. Prices for heifers ranged from £9 to £l7, and for cows from £8 to £l6. FAT LAMBS. There was a larger entry of fat lambs, tho total being 2292. The quality showed an improvement, tho last fortnight’s fiuo weather having enabled the lambs to put ou moro oondition. The line that topped tho market was tho beat seen iit -tho yards this season. There was good competition, the export buyers gi'ung fid per' lb over all, but considering the quality of the lambs_ tlie market was easier titan last week. The range ot prices wasExtra prime lamb.s to 34s 3d. Primo lambs 2Gs Gd to 30s. Lighter lambs 22s lOd to 265. Tho oales wero: —For R. G. Messrs Hunt and Langdale, of Sumner, sold through Messrs Pyne and Co. a line of two-tooth Romney-cross ewes, realising 40s a head. As usual lately, lambs formed the bulk of the entry, whilst -in the sheep pens were consignments from tho Peninsula-, tho C-hathams, the. "West Coast and Taknka (Nokon).
