January 29An Italian official message reports We stormed yesterday a height east of the Asiago basin and broke through positions at several points, overcoming a stubborn defence. Subsequently we resisted violent counter-offensives, talcing prisoner 1500 men- Our artillery co-operated with the Allies in dispersing reinforcements in the Nos Campomuio valley. Our aircraft were everywhere superior, and brought down twelve machines.
THE ENEMY’S VERSION. A, and N.Z. Cable Association and Reuter. (Received January 30, 8.15 p.m.) LONDON, January 29. A wireless German official message states:—The Italians attacked between Asiago and the Brenta. A later German official report says : The Italian attack was broken on Monte Sisemol. A counter-attack regained Mont© Dival Bella, on which the enemy had secured a foothold. We throw back tho enemy at Col dol Rosso, and between Frenzola and tho Brenta. We dropped twenty-one tons of bombs on Castlefrnnco, Treviso and Mestre on Saturday night. Big Ares were )b----served.
