TOTAL PROHIBITION. ' CARRIED BY HOUSE BY 282 TO 128. WASHINGTON, December 17. The House of Representatives carried Prohibition by 282 votes to 128. Two-thirds .of the States must ratify the measure. The Congress resolution in favour of national prohibition will have to be submitted to the State Legislatures for approval or rejection. CANADIAN ELECTIONS. HEAVY POLL AND INTENSE INTEREST. OTTAWA, December 17. There was a record poll at the elections to-day, and intense interest was displayed. Sir R. L. Borden received from Mr W. M. Hughes, Prime Minister of Australia, a message hoping for a triumphant return of a Union Government, in order that Canada may put forth her full strength in the mighty struggle between liberty and despotism Eighteen Liberals were elected upopposea. The total number of members of the House is 235. The Halifax and Yukon elections have been delayed. The final results will not be known until the soldiers’ votes at the front are received.
