AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The oouncil of the Canterbury Automobile Association mot last night; present—Messrs W. H. Tisdall (president), J. S. Hawkes,.!. R. Climie, F. D. Kestevcn, C. G. M’Kellar, A. M'KelJar, P- S. NiclioHs, F. Sargent, A. S. Clarkson' and K. W. Loclilicad. Tho committees of St Saviour’s Orphanage and St Luke’s Mothers’ Union wrote thanking tlio association for tho conveyance of children. The Wharenui School Committee wrote thanking tho association for warning boards erected in Cutler’s Road. Mr W. C. Elliot, who went away with the Fourth Reinforcements and returned wounded, was appointed driver to the soldiers' C!l Thc following new members were dented: —P. Balkuityne, G. E. G. Sliand, E. \V. H. Gray, M. Wall work (Grey), A. NiclioHs, F. C. Archer, A. R. Blackwood, B. M’Kenzie, e". Skurr, J. Stevens, F. Sisson, J. Walsh and D. Mulholland. The Soldiers’ Car Committee reported that £3lB had been received towards the car. A conference had been held with Drs Fox and Blaclaiiorc, and it had been agreed that orders lor the car should lie received only through the medical officer. The first month’s running had beet broken, tut eievon trips had been made, covering 235 miles and carrying eighty-two patients. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Hawkes for tailing charge of the car before the appointment of a. driver. Mr Climie reported that the association had been requested to undertake tho control of tho Red Cross Sales Dopot.in Cathedral Square on Christmas Eve. The matter had been taken up by a Ladies’ committee, and receiving and canvassing depots had beon established in twenty or. thirty country districts.'and a. car would bring them all down. Any lady, connected; with a member of the association, was invited to assist, in the effort.

A grant of £25 was made to the Red Cross motor carnival.
