BOWLING.

BECKENHAM CtLUB. Tho first general meeting of the newly* formed Beckenham Bowling Club was held at Mr Peek’s Hall, Colombo Street, on Tuesday evening, when a goodly number of members and residents interested in the welfare of the club attoudod. Mr E. C. Chegwin was voted to the chair.

Mr A. W. Charlcson read a report, on behalf of tho provisional committee, giving a brief history of the club from the time of its in-, ception up to date. The report detailed how the club had acquired a piece of the‘old river-bed in Western Terrace from tho City Council on very favourable terms, and had transformed it into a place of beauty and recreation, whereas before, being used as a “rubbish-tip,” it was a nuisance to the district. Tho thanks of the ’dub were due to the following for their assistance, financial and otherwise:—Messrs Chegwin, Allen, Horsley, Blackmore, Hunter, Cormack and the Mayor (Mr H. Holland). The financial position of the club was stated to be very satisfactory, especially for a club that had not yet besn able to allow it 3 members to play on the green. Ten present announced their intention of becoming members, and the chairman announced that the green would bo ready for playing on early in tho coming season. Officers were elected as follow:—President, Mr E. C. Chegwin; vice-president,’Mr G. Cormack; honorary secretary, Mr N. Laver; honorary treasurer, Mr A. Manhire; honorary auditor, Mr R. Maddren; committee of management, Messrs A. M. Robertson. T. E, Thomson, G. A. Blackmore and C. C. Derrett. Tho Mayer of Christchurch waa appointed patron. It was agreed that tho club should make application to bo affiliated to tho oentre. A vote of thanks was passed to the provisional committee —Messrs Chegwin, Peek, Charters, Hunter, Cormack, Derrett* Charle- , son (secretary) and Laver (treasurer)—for the ablo manner in which thoy had carried out the work of forming the green and placing suoh a comprehensive report before tho , meeting. ____________
