SPREYDOX. Tho S prey don Borough Counci!_ mot last evening; present—tho Mayor (Mr W: H. Winsor) and Councillors D'. Williumson, E. H. Clarke, W. R. Gahagan, J. P. Diaok, S, H. Rudd and A. Mauliire. Mr 11. G. Ell, M.P., wrote asking tor a grant to the Summit Road scheme when the borough estimates wore next considered. The letter Was received, the request being described as “ a hardy annual.” The Christchurch Canal Leumue applied for a grant. Tho Mayor said the work being done by the league was for the good oi the city, and ho moved that £5 5s be voted. The motion was carried, Councillor Diack opposing on tho ground that money was tight and the application could wait until after the war. Tho Finance Committee s report- was adoptcd. The Works Committees report stated that the question of tho storage of ’’dangerous 'roods’had been referred to a sub-committee. which would report la‘or. With reference to the City Council’s letter stating that the flooding of Colombo Street was caused through the culver's, a reply had been sen' 'o the efi’oa* that flooding l ook place beforo •he culverts wore there, and suggesting that 'he wider from the citv side of Strickland Street be 4 nken across Co’ombo S'reet at the iunctioiif of such streets. The report wa3 adop'ed. The Electric Commit'ea rcror'ed that 4 lie current had been 4 1'.hrn ever f-om the Public Works Department, through the City Council. The report- was adopted. The plans eu’”rnt, 4 ed of the u--'—os-- 1 subdivision of Shillito’s estate, Sydney Street, were missed, subject to tile borough by-laws being adhered to.
