AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION,

MONTHLY MEETING. Tho council of the Canterbury Automobile Association met last night: present Messrs A, S. Clarkson (president,), AA r , H. Tisd&ll, J. S. Hawkes. C. G. M’Kellar, AY. E. Mills, F, W. Johnston, P. R. Climie, F. Hubbard, \V, J. Al’Miiian and F. D. Kestevcn.

The Sproydon Borough Council wrote disclaiming any responsibility in regard to the fatal accident at the Lincoln Roy<l bridge. Mr iiawkcs said that he had studied tho spot, and there wao absolutely no danger to any man who could drive a car. There was plenty of room. Mr Hubbard corroborated this view. It was resolved to thank tho council for its consideration of tho case

In reply to a ooinmuniqation from tho Marlborough Association, it was decided to state that the question of direction posts through Cheviot was being considered. A report from the Beads Cominitteo _ was received on tlio proposed deviation of the main north road at tho Greta, suggesting that Coal Creek should bo bridged, that the present road should be deviated throngh a gully, and that tho remaining streams should be bridged. a letier wa3 received on tho same subject from Mr H. B. Billons, suggesting that Seaton’s house should be connected by telephone, so that motorists intending to go .hroiigh Cheviot could learn the state of tho Greta before starting out. The AVaipara County Council ah-o wrote, asking for a grant towards the ■improvement of tho road, and suggesting that tho Public Works Department 'should decide upon the new route.

Tho letters, together with tho report, were referred to the Public Works Department. It was agreed to supply " go slow " boards at tho Biccarton Boat! near tho school.

Messrs J. S. Hawke., and C. W. Hervev were appointed to visit the. West Coast in connection with the establishment of the Westport and Greymouih branches of the association.

The following new members were elected: —Messrs D. Bailey, E. W. Rolph, R. J. .Sharpe, F. G. Sowdcn, J. Gillanders, T. Grieg, H. G. Jones, S. -G. Holmes, J. W. Davison. A. Cameron, J. Lee, jun., W. P. Philo, J. Templo'on'. J. A. Lummis, C. J. Petersen and L. Hansen. The secretary sta'ed that during 4 he year, to date, 225 new members had been elected. '
