Captain Wvndham Portal, who commands the Household Cavalry Infantry , Battalion, is heir to a baronetcy with ) a curious ancestry. The Portals are Spanish by origin, and migrated to Languedoc at tfie end of the eleventh century, becoming great lords in Tonlouse and Southern Fiance. The Edict I of Nantes, drove them from France to Holland, and thence they came te Lcn- i don, and established in Hampshire the j famous • paper mills, which secured in 1724 the contract for making the p.ipor for Bank of England notes. ■;/•, ts ;V ]
