Jenness, of the Lower Hutt, Wellington, has heard recently from his brother, Dr Diamond Jenness, who was a member of the Stefannson scientific expedition to the Canadian Arctic. He is now preparing his reports in Ottawa, Canada, but mentions in the letter that he has thoughts of enlisting for active service at the front. The following Christchurch. candidates have been selected by the Admiralty Recruiting Committee for commissions as sub-lieutenants in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, and will sail for England soon:—C.'J. Denham, G. L. Hancock, Ji S. Hines, S. P. "Simpson, S. P. Dalton, H. W. Harris, H.' N. Jarvis, D. E. J. Macbean, H. A. Rhind and R. M. Watson. A further list of selected candidates will be published later on. The remains of the late Mr S. Brain, who for many years was actively connected with the Rugby Street odist Church, were interred yesterday at the Sydenham Cemetery. The A. C. Lawry officiated.
