Mr L. A. Cox, a discharged soldier, has been appointed to the vacancy on the City Council inspectors’ staff. Sergeant Hooson, of the firm of Simester, Hooson and Co., Wellington, who is reported wounded in Franco, has been appointed second-lieutenant.
At a meeting of the Sumner branch of the Royal Life Saving Society on Tuesday evening, Mr F. "Kerr, tho captain of the club, received the society’s medallion of au honorary instructor. Mr S. K. Bassett, chairman of the Christchurch head centre, in asking Mr H. Buttle, the chairman of the meeting, to confer tho honour, said that it was the only one of its kind at present held by any active member of . the Sumner branch. Mr Buttle, .in making the presentation, congratulated Dir Kerr on his achievement, and expressed , tho hope that other members of- the club would train teams in life saving work and win a similar distinction.
