ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY.

SUMNER BRANCH. Tbo first mooting of the newly-elected committee of tho Sumner. Branch of the Royal Life Saving Society was hold in the pavilion last night, when Mr H. Bu.tle, sen., the chairman of tho branch, presided over a good l attendance. Correspondence regarding the oppointment of beach inspectors was received from the Borough Council. It was decided to recommend the following for appointment: Messrs 11. J. Maxriner, 11. Buttle, F. Kerr, W. Miller, Vf. H. Benson and G. F. Allen. These members were alio appointed a subcommitteo to draw up a schedule of duties for the approval of tho Borough Council. It was decided to hold the opening day on Saturday, October 11, when a surf demonstration would ba given, Mid members of tho New Brighton, Taylor's Mistake, tho Christchurch Lwlies' and other clubs would be invited. A sub-oommittea consisting of the secretary, treasurer, captain and vice-captain was set up to make arrangements. Messrs G-. W. Atmore and R. W. Winter were elected members of the committee. Thirteen new members were elected. Arrangements were made for a suitable look-out to bo kept on Saturdays, Sundays and all holidays. The dangerous nature of the strea.ro between the tram bridge and tho pier was discussed, but it was stated that tho Borough Council was preparing danger notices. In response to a circular Tcr " Our Day'" funds,' it was agreed that a collection should be made on tho opening day.
