Medals have already been struck in Germany to commemorate more than eightv-five “victories” during the present war. Prize money now is a trifle compared with what fell to lucky crews in the palmy days of the eighteenth century. After the capture of the single Spanish ship Hermione in by tho Active and the Favourite, tho rear-admiral and the commodore, who had not even been present, received between them £64,983 3s 9d. Of the Active’s crew, Captain Sawyer got £85,053 13s three commissioned officers each £13,004 14s Id, eight warrant officers each £4336 3s 2d, twenty petty officers each £IBO6 10s luu, and 150 seamen and marines each £485 5s 4d—total, £251,020 12s. The Favourite’s share was £203,181 4s 3d. Twenty waggons triumphantly brought tho treasure from Portsmouth to London.
