A GORE INCIDENT.

[Per Press Association.] GORE, June 17. Afc the Magistrate’s Court John Fletcher, Joseph Davis aud Alex Beattie were charged with being drunk in the main street, aaid John Fletcher with wilfully breaking «a pane of glass, valued at £l7, the property of Carl Bowmast. Fletcher also was charged with being found at night with an article of disguise, viz., a mask, without lawful excuse. Davis was charged with having a mask in his possession. Beattie was charged with having a mask in his possession and also was charged with being found at night armed with a sword, without assigning valid, satisfactory reason for being so armed. The charges of drunkonness were taken together, and the Magistrate inflicted a lino of os each on Fletcher and Beattio, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. The. information against Davis was dismissed. The other charges against all the accused were taken together, and. an additional charge was preferred against Alex Beattie of inciting to commit an offence. The judgment of the Magistrate, Mr Young, was as follows:—The ehargo against Beattie of inciting was dismissed, there being no evidence to prove it. With regard to the charge against Beattie of carrying u bayonet a valid and satisfactory reason having been given by defendant for having it in his possession, the information would bo dismissed. The charge against all three accused of having masks in their possession was more serious. All were liable to three months’ imprisonment without the option of a line. They were convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Regarding the damage to the window the Magistrate said ho was satisfied that tletchcr broke tlio window. Considering che heavy cost of the damages Fletcher would be,convicted and ordered to pay the damage, £l7. Mr Bussell, for the defence, said he would undertake that tho money would be paid forthwith.
