POULTEY AND EGGS. Messrs J. B. Mcrrett and Co. report a verv largo entry in poultry on Saturday, the demand lor all classes being keen, especially young hens with laying capacity. laMo "chickens realised 4s 6d to 8s 10d, ducks Js fad to 7s 9d luns 2s to Gs lid,- pullets 39 to 11 f gees© 7s to 93, all at per pair. TATTERSALL'S HORSE BAZAAR. Messrs H. Mataon and Co. report an entry of forty-three horses on Saturday. Ihe catalogue comprised all sorts, a good many useful animals being forward. The inquiry was sood, and a very small proportion of the witrv failed to find new owners under the hammer. Among the principal sales were: -Account J. Maconochie (Ashburton), trottine gelding £22, and trotting marc £l6; 15. May (Hills Road), aged marc, £10; J. M. Hey wood and Co., aged mare £o 10s 8j earold gelding £9, six-year-old mare £ll, eight-year-old mare £lO 10s. six-year-old gelding £2l 10s- R. Walker (Avonsule), seven-year-old mare, £10; client, seven-year-old goldin" £2-3 10s; client, five-year-old gelding, £l9; (1. Power (New Brighton), eight-year-old'gelding. £11; J. J. Young (Kaiapoi), aged gelduig, £l6. Older horses sold as usual.

ASHBURTON. Wheat-Offerings are now general and as threshing is now proceeding in the Methven and surrounding districts, some large pareels have been offered from that locality. The qualitv of the grain from the upper districts is verv satisfactory, bltt a proportion of srainnow offering does not show good condition, having been threshed too soon after rain. The market is not at all buoyant, and for Tuscan buyers outside offers arc 5s on trucks, Hunters Id and Pearl 2d per bushel more. Oats— Onlv a small quantity is coming forward, ami as the southern crop is now almost ready, prices are regarded as bound to recede locally owing to the large amount of business that has been done for forward spread shipment from southern ports. Cartons are worth from 3s to 3s 2d dark heavy Duns 3s 3d on trucks. Local Algerians are not in demand. Chaff—At present prices demand is purely local and value may be quoted as 90s on tracks, country stations. In some instances 95s "is procurable, but some merchants are only prepared to offer 80s to 85s for delivery in three or four weeks' time.

. NORTH OTAGO. TFrom Our Correspondent.] OAMARU, February 19. A fair amount of business has been passing in wheat in this market during the week. K cood proportion of the wheat is being drawn from South Canterbury. Tho market closed easier, prices showing a decline of a penny on the week. Velvet was most in demand, and for a prime lino of 600 sacks os Ski net was given at a country station, but sales generally hovered about 5s 2d, accordintr to sample and railage distance. Larly in the week Red Chaff, Tuscan. Dreadnought and Marshall's White changed hands at countrv stations at tip to os Id, but later sales have been on a lower basis, and to-day Red Chaff and Tuscan have been sold down to 4s lid net on trucks.

The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd.. report having held, on Friday, in conjunction with Messrs Pme and Co," at "Hathwolden," Te Pinta, a verv successful clearing sale on account of Mr'Thomas Miles, who has sold.his property.
