OBITUARY.

MR THOMAS MILLAR. On Thursday Mr Thomas Millar died at his residence. Beach Road, Kaiapoi. after a protracted illness. Born in Scotland seventy-four years ago, he arrived in New Zealand ns wool buyer for the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company, occupying that responsible position with much satisfaction to the company till a few vears ago, when failing health compelled him to retire. During the Russian war scare of 1885. Mr Millar, who had been a member of a Volunteer corps in Scotland, assisted to reform the Kaiapoi Rifles, of which he was elected a lieutenant and six years later became captain, holding the position to 1910, when he was entered on the retired list. He was a keen rifle shot, and aided his company to win many matches and troDhies. He was an elder of St Paul's Presbyterian Church. Kaiapoi, and for a term of years acted as honorary treasurer to the Sons and Daughters of Temperance. He leaves a widow, but m> family.
