UNIVERSITY SENATE.

[Per Press Association.] ■WELLINGTON, January 28. At the University Senate, on the recommendation of the Statutes and " Ad Eundem" Committee, the University of Chicago was included in the list of universities recognised by the University of New Zealand. Miss Carrie Pierpont Wallace, 8.A., of Chicago University, was admitted "ad eundem" to the degree of B.A. in the University of New Zealand. The application of Alfred O. FJolfe for an " ad eundem " degree was not granted, as applicant is not a resident of New Zealand, but living in Western Australia. It was resolved that the application of Agnes Muriel Winter for admission "ad eundem " to the degree of 31. A. cannot be granted, as she holds no degree of a recognised university as required by Clause 11 of the Statute "admission ad eundem." Professor Hunter said that the case was a very unusual one. The lady in question possessed all the requirements for the degree of B.A. of Oxford, but could not get the degree because Oxford University did not give degrees to women. At the same time the New Zealand University, which gave degrees to women, could not give an "ad eundem " degree to a person who had not already got a degree. He thought something ought to be done to meet such cases.

The Chancellor: Our Act won't permit us to do anything. Dublin University, however, confers degrees iu these cases.
