RESCUES WOUNDED COMRADE IN SURF AT GALLIPOLI. AWARDED NEW ZEALAND LEGION OF HONOUR. At the meeting of the council of tho New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association last night a latter was received from the secretary of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand stating that the directors had considered the application of the co»mcil that recognition should be made of the bravery of Trooper L. C. Penlington in rescuing a wounded comrade in the surf at Gallipoli while under tire, but they regretted that owing to the adfcion' tauing place outside of tho Dominion they had no power to make an award. On the motion of Mr F. C. Fantham, it was resolved that the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association should award, its certificate of the Legion of Honour to Trooper Penlington.

The president (Mr F. H. Bowler) said that the honour was the highest the association could bestow. The certificate w3s awarded for acts of heroism in swimming accidents iu which its members were concerned.
