ANNUAL MEETING

At the thirty-eighth annual meeting oi' the Christchurch Railway Employees' Sick -Benefit Society, which was hcil in th* Oddfellows' Hall, Selwyn Street, Addiiigton, Mr G. N. Haxell -presided over a largo attendance of members.

Tho committee's report stated that the year commenced with 257 members. Since then fifty members had joined, seventeen had resigned, fifteen of whom had left to serve theiir .country (an action which the committee wished to be placed on record), three members had been superannuated, three had been transfer red, and two had died, leaving a membership of 291. 'lhe superannuation benefit fund established by the committee in June had afforded assistance to several members in paying; their superannuation during lengthy sickness. The balancesheet showed the rec*ipts to have been £723 14- 5d .and the expenditure £539 13s 2d, leaving a balc-nce of £lB4 Is 3d, winch it was proposed to divide as follows: £3O 7* 6d ah a reserve fund, the balance, £147 13s 9d. to be distributed as a dividend of lis per member.

The committee's action in establish* tug the superannuation benefit fund was endowed, and the report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted. 'Officers were elected as follow:—President, Mr B. E. Vein in and \V. If. Jenkins; committee, Messrs Chaplin and Piiest (fitting shop), H. Wright and G. Colville (smith shop), A. M'Kav and C. Cross (boiler shop), AY. Mitchell and G. Rolfo (paint shop), I*. Stevens and J. Vartha (moulding slwp), G. Haxell and C. T. Broome (car shop), J. M'George (goods shed); sick visitors, Messrs Priest, Wright, Broome, Mitchell, M'Kay, Vartha and J. M'George. The alteration of rules, as recommended by the committee, was agreed to. A medallion was presented to the retiring president, Mr G. X. Hase.l, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to tlia retiring officers.,
