[From Our Correspondent.]
DUNEDIN, December 11
i it the quarterly meeting *>r' the i Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, at which 120 carpenters attended, -the following resolution, moved by Mr W. Warren, was carried unanimously :—" Thai we with disgust cilter our emphatic protest against the action of the Massey-Ward Administration regarding recruiting. While ignoring the principle of voluntaryism by urging on employers to adopt coercive measures on their employees of military age, the Government most inconsistently advertise through the local Press for applicants between the ages cf eighteen and thirty years, which is to all intents and purposes the ago fori military 'service We are aware that the Government service should he maintained in an efficient state. We arc also aware that there are many quit© capable of performing that service in the meantime without the Government counter-blasting the efforts of many who are endeavouring by every legitimate method to gain the required number of volunteers, therefore we, in the interest of the Empire, which isi a more vital one than that of the Dominion, call upon them to give practical expression to their actions in such a way that the stigma of disloyalty may be ;->uent away by removing every obstacle that will tend to prolong this terrible struggle."
