MR DENTON EXPLAINS.
TO TWB EDITOR. Sir, —Mr T. E. Dacre has been kind enough to point out to tho electors of Lin wood some matters to which it is fair that I should be allowed to reply. He explains that some years ago I was one ol the prominent landowners who prepared a petition to block the proposal for including Linwood North and' Avonsido in the city. As for my being a " largo landowner," I have never owned more than one and a quarter acres in the district affected, .and I was well aware that my rates would be decreased should the proposal bo granted. I was not opposed to including tho thickly populated parts of Linwood within the °i*Z? but 1 objected to a block within Buckley's Road, New Brighton Road, Mile. Eoad and Wyon Street, boing included. The area of this block i« about tlurty-five acres, and' at this time there woro only five houses on it. I considered that tho time was not opportune for Including such a. thinly populated district with the city, and especially as most of tho land was already on tho market. Mr Dacre misrepresents the facts when he states that I objected to the whole of Linwood North and Avonside being included in Greivter Christchurch.—l am. etc., W. H. DENTON.'
