BOROUGH COUNCILS.

ASHBURTON

Tho fortnightly meeting of the newly elected Ashburton Borough Council was held on Monday evening; present—the Mayor (Mr H. Davis), and Councillors F. Ferriman, H. A. Lloyd, P. L. Orr, O. Hefford, G. H. Bnohanan, H. M'Elrea, R. Kerr and G. W. Andrews. The Mayor briefly welcomed the two new councillors to tho cotuicit".

Tho debit balance on the temporary loans account was reported at £6200, and a debit balance at tho bankamounting to £ll9 4s lOd, making a total overdraft of £6619 4s lOd. The revenue since last meeting amounted to £74 19s Gd.

Belgium Relief Fund, this being Ashburton's quota on a population basis, and to get into communication with tho Mayor of Christchurch on the matter, also to give £2 towards the Red Cross Fund, and to get tho Governor's sanction for it. The waterworks engineer reported on defective plugs in the borough, and tho matter was referred to the Fire Brig&cr© Committee. A Glasgow lease was offered an ai.pHca.ut at the upset rental fixed bv the Res3rves Committee. Accounts amounting to £445 Ss 2d were passed for payment.
