SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

ANNUAL MEETINGS OF HOTJSE- ' HOLDERS.

The annual meetings of householders in the 'North Canterbury Education Board's district were held on Monday evening, for the purpose of receiving the report of the year's work and electing a school committee. Following art 1 additional results:— LYTTELTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. Mr W. T. Foster presided over a fair attendance at the annual meeting of householders on Monday. The report on the past year's work on the school stated tiiat the average attendance had been good, the average attendance for the quarter ending December 31, 1914, being 496 scnolars out of a roll number ot 500. In the secondary department the average attendance had been eleven pupils out of thirteen. As the outcome ot the children foregoing their prizes., the sum of £2O had been voted towards the Belgium Relief Fund. ...The report of tho inspector showed that the school had been well managed, and the scholars received excellent tuition at the hands of the staff. The financial statement to December 31, 1914, showed the receipts to have been £137 12s, and tho expenditure £ll9 o.s 2d. '1 he report and balance-sheet were adopted. Tho following committee was elected: —Dr C. H. ' Upham, and Messrs W. Brown, J. Pitcaithley, W. Carson, E. R. Curtis, C. E. Curtis. F. Arnold, W. Taylor arid C. Johnston.

WEST LYTTELTON. Mr C. H. Agar presided over tho meeting of householders at West Lyttelton on Monday. The report stated that tho number on the roll was 187, and the a.verago attendance 169. During the year the school had lost its head master, the late Mr F. Benjamin, whose death was deeply regretted. Mr H. H. Allison had been appointed to tho vacant hoad mastership. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £ls 19s 3d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The question of the limited space available for Standards 111. and IV. was discussed at some length. The secretary (the Rev E. Eliot Chambers) stated that the board's attention had been drawn time after time to tho urgent necessity for more accommodation, but the board absolutely refused to do anything in tho matter. It was' stated that there were over sixty children in the two classes, and they were confined to a room 20ft square. Frequent complaints had been made without effect.

Eventually it was unanimously resolved that the board be again communicated with, and urged to improve the accommodation for Standards 111. and TV.

The outgoing committee were unanimously re-elected. They were:—Mr J. J. Gower (chairman), Rev E. Eliot Chambers, and Messrs A. G. Sneddon, Robert Law, J. D. Primmer, A. G. Johnson and A. Ealham.

MACKENZIE. The householders' meeting of the Mackenzie school district was held on Monday evening. Dr Saunders presided, and there was only a small attendance. The chairman stated that the outgoing committee had left a credit balance of £.lO, and that certain improvements to the grounds and the school had been arranged for. Tito following committee was elected': —Mr Cotterill (chairman), Mesdames Saunders and Thomas, and Dr Saunders, and Messrs M'Caskey, Barnes and Rentoul.

OASHMPmE HILLS. The annual meeting of householders was held in tho schoolroom, Dyer's Pass Road, on Monday. There was a fair attendance 2 and Mr R. M, Laing was in the chair. The report, which was adopted, showed that the school was making steady progress both in numbers and efficiency. The following committee was elected • —Mr A. Ourrie (chairman), Mrs T. E. Taylor, Messrs C. R. M'Crostie, 0. H. Duff and A. C. Andrews. A motion was carried unanimously recommending the t-ommitteo to have the school connecvou with the high pressure water supply ami :.. .voiage systems.
