COUNTY COUNCILS.

AKAROA.. -.- The Aknroa County Council met at Duvaucheilo on Saturday; present— Messrs E. Hay (chairman), T. Conway, 0. B. Thacker and J. R. Thacker. It was decided to take no action in a case of a breach of the motor by-law which prohibits motors travelling on tho roads at night, as the offence was committed owing to an invalid. being ordered to Christehurch for an immew diate operation.. As the regulations under tho Fisheries Act prohibiting trawling do net include tho £i)ast from Okain's Bay to Akaroa, it was decided to request tho Marine Department to extend the line from Okain's Bay to Lake Forsyth. Mr R. Lowjie asked for an extension of time for tho completion of tho Robinson's 'Bay. Wharf Road. It was .decided to .extend tho time till June 5. •' ['-

Mr J. D Bruce, countv c'hajrman, was appointed the;council's representative oil the Akaroa . High /School Board. It was dooided to deferuntil next meeting consideration of an ap» plication from the staff for'an increase in wages. The crusher engineer reported, that-he would finish crushing in Le Bon's in a week. : A total of-929 yards had been crushed since the previous meeting;; Accounts amounting to £lB2 were passed for payment/ and ihe. financial statement, showing a debit balance of £679,.was adopetd; • .Mr J. R. Thacker reported having arranged for 500 yards of metal to ..be spawled on the Summit'Ro'ad on satisfactory terms.

waipara: The Waipara..County'Council .met on Saturday \ last; present—Al&sera <■•. 11. Evans {chairman), G. Rutherford, N. D. Campbell,. H. H, M. Holland and T. E. L. Roberts. Mr M. B. Forrester applied for repairs to Mount. Kareta Road, arid offered to pay half the cost. It was decided that the chairman and Mr G. Rutherford should inspect the work asked for. The Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Counties Association asked that any romits which the council desired to have discussed at: : the general meeting iu May should be forwarded as soon as possible, "and alao the names of the delegates. It .was decided that Messrs R. Evans and G. Rutherford should be the delegates to represent trie council, and the'following remit was ordered to bo forwarded: —" That local bodies have x>wer to close roads running .alongside a railway to traction engine haulage traino, ''except te the.nearest or first railway station in the direction the goods ara going.''' ,;;•'•• - 'Thq Registrar of Canterbury College again applied .for a roadway through Reserve" 2011; Mr Dalzell, Inspector of Reserves, also interviewed the council on the same matter, and stated the College trustees, were prepared to pay half the cost of the - work up to ten: pounds. Ainbulance Associations, and the resolutions passed at tho conference. It was decided to write to the Belgium Harvest Festival Committee, ana recommend that the wholo of the contributions given in Canterbury should be handed over, to tho Government," to be paid cut.'by itmonthly, as Canterbury's _donaiion, which on a population basis is estimated to require £856 per, month, for the relief o£ the poor of Belgium. Tho clerk was instructed to write to tho Public Works Engineer, Wellington, regarding the Weka Creek Bridge plans.
