THE BATING QUESTION.
TO THE EDITOB.
Sir.—l think "Small Cottage "deserves our thanks for having reminded you that a poll on the question cf rating is near at hand. Allow me to say .that the poll takes place on March 4 next. . ... j The' present (system of rating is bad. and not. onlv is it a community lost but causes von to have to pay somebody else's rates. Ratepayers all agree that rates ha.ve been going up steadilv forvears. If "Small Cottage roallv 'understood the question hewould change Ids opinion at once and vote for the abolition of the present system. I am told a public meeting is being called to discuss the whole question, when I trust the ratepayers of Christchurch will attend and take an intelligent interest in a matter of vital importance to the community.— 1 am ' ° tC -' W.E.R. •
