MARRIED OR SINGLE?

to Tris EDrron Sir,—Will you kindly allow mo space in your valuable paper to discuss my views re scrgoante-major going with the New Zealand Field Force? 1 went to the camp on Sunday last, and as I

happen to know most of tho sergeantsmajor in this district, I was astonished to find about six in camp, married men, with three, four and five children, respectively. I would like to know whether it is fair play to send married men with so many children, when there are, I am sure, enough sergeants-major in the Canterbury district with no children, and only too willing to fight for the country, whereas some of thoso in camp, being married, do not want to go. Why not take those who arc willing and who have no children, in preference to the others?—l am, etc., FAIR PLAY. Linwood, September 1.
