Hu,UNION STEAM SHIP COMPANY. The MaoTi will bo the ferry steamer today The Poherua is still barbound at Greymouth. It will be Monday next before the Monowai will reach Lyttelton to laud her northern cargo. The Kowhai is duo to-morrow, to load for Napier and Gisborne. To-day the Waihcra will go uw tho stream, and the crew will be paid off to-night.

SHIPPING NOTES. The steamer VValkure, under charter to iio Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, is row eighty-six days out from Hull to Aew Plymouth. She has about 5000 tons of basic dag, salt and superphosphates. The V\ alturo will be the largest vessel to enter the North Island port. Messrs Laidlcr and M'Clanaghan, fourth officers of the Riverton and Ulimaroa respectively, have exchanged positions. Yesterday afternoon the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Kaipara left Port Chalmers for Lyttelton in continuation of her knimev from London. The vessel has a ‘airly "large quantity of cargo to land here, subsequently she will load for England. Having left Bluff yesterday afternoon, the Commonwealth and Dominion liner llurilai is due in port this afternoon. The vessel will load a large quantity of frozen meat, wool, tallow ar.d other cargo for London, and will eail finally fer the Homo port on Monday next. The weather on the West Coast is stiff bad, and shipping is considerably inconvenienced. The Union Company a Karamu, which left Lvttelton on Friday last for Greymouth. is off Westport, and the Opouri has also sought Shelter at the same pert. The American four-mnsted schooner IT. D. Bendixeu, which arrived at .Napier on Sunday from Gray's Harbour, is in command of Captain C. Grcnzon. On the voyage from America the vessel had many trying experiences. Gray's Harbour was left on March 22, and a gale was met. the first day out, after which moderate winds were experienced until March 27, when another gale raged all that day and continued for two or three days following. The sea was also running very high. Moderate winds and calms were met. with until May 16. when a heavy squall took away the mainsail and main gaff while the vessel was in latitude 29.4 ft south and longitude 172.38 west. The gale continued until May 21, and the ship laboured heavily, least Cape was reached on May 28, and from there down to Napier good weather was experienced. During some of the gales the vessel shipped several big seas. An exceedingly interesting departure has been made by lire Admiralty in appointing as inspecting officer for Liverpool, in Connection with armaments carried by Brili.-h merchant vessels; an officer of the Royal Naval Reserve, in the person of Lieutenant Sidney 57 Richardson, who was until recently first officer of the Whiffs Star liner Baltic, lieutenant Richardson, who has nineteen years' seniority in the R.N.R., has had the advantage of twelve mouths’ training in the Navy, and he holds first-class certificates in gunnery and torpedo work. ■ V,’:' MOERAKI’S TRANSHIPMENTS.
